THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Governor Arif Mohammad Khan on Sunday said he sought clarity in the bills issued by the government and if it is received, necessary steps will be taken. He added that if the government is interested in war then it is welcome.
The governor said that the show cause notice was issued against Vice Chancellor appointed by the governor because of this confrontational attitude. "I welcome the HC verdict in favor of former KTU VC Ciza Thomas. I don't want to the Chief Minister's stand. The government is trying to fight with the Raj Bhavan.", he said.
Also, the governor sought an explanation from the government on the land law amendment bill passed by the cabinet. This is in the context of receiving a complaint against the bill. The governor said that after receiving the government's reply, further action will be taken.
Meanwhile, Governor Arif Mohammad Khan had signed a bill increasing the annual amount paid by the government to the Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple. With this, instead of the current Rs 58,500, the temple will get Rs 1,75,500 per year. This amount is increased by 25% every 5 years.
Following the Land Reforms Act, Sree Padmanabhaswamy had acquired the temple land under an agreement to pay a fixed amount every year. Rs 58,500 which was being paid as per this was not paid since 2017. This action was then challenged in the High Court. The bill was brought after the court asked the government to consider the matter. The governor signed the bill the same day it was tabled by the government.
