KOLLAM: The police received the CCTV footage of the attack on a differently-abled woman who was sleeping in front of a shop in Kottiyam.

The incident happened during the wee hours on Friday. A young man, wearing a white shirt and shirt, approached the elderly woman and first tried to remove her clothes. The footage shows that the man suddenly moved away from the place after she woke up. After a few minutes, he came back to the elderly woman and grabbed her. As she tried to defend herself, the man continuously beat her. The footage shows the unconscious elderly woman being carried forward. The footage is two minutes long.

Later, the elderly woman was found in a pool of blood with a head injury hours later at Sithara Junction, where there were few CCTVs. They were first spotted by the priest of a temple near Sithara Junction and an autorickshaw driver who was passing by. Then the information was informed to the locals and the locals informed their daughter. After admitting her to the hospital, her daughter lodged a complaint with the Kottiyam police. The police started investigation and registered a case after a day. A special investigation team was formed under the leadership of Kottiyam SHO Vinod on the instructions of the ACP. The elderly woman was discharged from the hospital.

Malayali or Tamil man

In connection with the incident, the police collected CCTV footage of institutions and houses from Kollam to Paripally on Friday morning. These are being categorized. The police concluded that the attack was carried out by a young man who was addicted to drugs and based on the footage obtained, the suspect could be a Malayali or a native of Tamil Nadu.
