THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that rain will continue in the state for five more days. Yellow alert has been announced in 11 districts today following rain warning.

Yellow alert has been announced in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and Kozhikode districts. A chance of isolated heavy rain is forecast. According to the warning, 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain is likely in 24 hours. A yellow alert has been issued and the rains are likely to intensify. Therefore, special caution should be exercised in hilly areas.

The IMD has informed that in the next 3 hours there is a possibility of light rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur districts and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph.

Meanwhile, heavy rains lashed the capital city and hilly areas. After heavy rain, the shutter of Aruvikara Dam was opened. 38 mm of rain fell in Neyyatinkara in half an hour. Many places including the city were flooded. In Thampanoor, a water puddle formed in front of the bus stand due to heavy rain.

In the next three hours, moderate rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places and 40 km per hour will occur in the district. According to the Central Meteorological Department, winds with a speed of up to one meter are also possible.
