NEDUMKANDAM: Around one acre of agricultural land was washed away in Pachady near Nedumkandam following the landslide. The farm belonging to Chovelikudiyil Vinod in Pachady was destroyed in the landslide yesterday morning. 25 families have been relocated from the landslide-affected area. Deputy Tehsildar of Udumbanchola informed that a camp was opened at Pachady St. Joseph Church Parish Hall. The Collector has advised people to stay away from danger-prone areas after IMD warned that the rains will continue to intensify in the coming days. A camp was started at Pachady St. Joseph Parish Hall for those who could not move to their relatives' homes. 14 families have reached here. The rest moved to their relatives' houses. Fire force and revenue team are camping at the spot. Heavy rains lashed the area near the Tamil Nadu border last night. The Nedunkandam Pachady landslide occurred near the Pathuvalavu road on Monday night. Around 100 pepper plants and banana trees were destroyed. The rural road is in danger due to landslides. Landslides have occurred in nearby areas in previous years. Three members of a family were killed in landslides during the 2018 floods.
Father and son injured by lightning
Sunil and his son Sreenath, who were sitting indoors in Nedunkandam third camp, were struck by lightning during the heavy thunderstorm that accompanied the rain. Srinath is out of danger. Sunil, who was seriously injured, is undergoing treatment at Theni Medical College. A few days ago, a person was injured by lightning in Ezhukumvayal as well.
