THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Vizhinjam port will welcome its second ship from China on November 9. ZHEN HUA 29 has already sailed from Shanghai port and carries cranes for Vizhinjam port. The ship is 245 meters long and 42 meters wide and travels at a speed of 10 nautical miles. The ship comes directly from Shanghai port to Vizhinjam. Port sources informed that 3 ships with cranes will arrive in November. ZHEN HUA 29 is one of the three ships on the list.
24-yard cranes are required for the first phase of Vizhinjam Port, which is targeted for completion by May 2024. China-based ZHEN HUA 15 was the first ship to arrive in Vizhinjam and it brought 2 yard cranes. These cranes are vital for handling cargo in the yard.
The remaining ship-to-shore cranes from ZHEN HUA 15 was lowered to the port on Tuesday at around 3:50 pm. Attempts were made to lower the cranes on Monday but the inclement weather proved a hindrance. Ship-to-shore cranes are used to lift containers from ships. 8 ship-to-shore cranes are required for the first phase of the port. With all cranes unloaded, ZHEN HUA 15 will depart from Vizhinjam on Wednesday.
