fine

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The former director and administrative officer of the PRD department have been fined fifty thousand rupees for denying information under RTI.

The RTI Commission imposed a fine of Rs 50,618 on Rejikumar and Joseph Skaria, an administrative officer who was in charge of the State RTI Officer. Action was taken on Superintendent Bindu's complaint. 25,618 rupees should be paid as compensation to Bindu for the fine amount, according to Information Commissioner A Abdul Hakim's judgment. The compensation should be paid by November 4. Bindu had sought the documents under the RTI Act for legal action on the complaint of withholding of promotion and illegal transfer. Administrative Officer Joseph Skaria replied that he could not provide the documents as the complaint was pending before the court. An appeal was made to Rejikumar, who was the director, but she got the same reply. Bindu then filed a complaint with the Right to Information Commission.
