NEW DELHI: A draft report of a parliamentary committee has recommended the central government to consider criminalizing extramarital sex. The draft report also called for criminalizing non-consensual homosexuality. These matters have been recommended in the report prepared by the Standing Committee on Parliamentary Affairs of the Ministry of Home Affairs to be given to the Central Government.
The Parliamentary Affairs Committee's move is to overturn the Supreme Court's verdict which repealed the section that criminalized extramarital affairs. There was a demand to criminalize extramarital sex in the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee that examined the Indian Penal Code. The Supreme Court had cancelled Section 497 of the Indian Penal Code. The committee has decided to forward the recommendation to the Center to ensure gender equality in this section.

Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs will meet on October 27 to consider and approve the draft reports of three bills to replace the IPC and CrPC Evidence Act. The MPs had stated that they did not have enough time to examine the three reports received by them on the evening of October 21, but the Internal Parliamentary Standing Committee is of the opinion that the draft will be considered on the fixed date. Members were informed through a notice that the draft reports on Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and the Bharatiya Sakshya Bill will be adopted on October 27.
