THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The price of rice has come down in the public market, much to the relief of consumers. The price of various types of rice has reached the price level in 2021. The fall in prices is due to the ban imposed by the Centre on exports of rice other than Basmati following the surge in rice prices last season.
The price of Andhra white rice sold under the name 'Jaya' has come down to Rs 39 per kg from Rs 62 per kg. The price of parboiled rice (puzhukkalari) has come down to Rs 35 per kg. As the harvest has come to an end in Andhra, it is believed that the price of rice will further decrease in the public market. Apart from Andhra, rice comes to Kerala from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
