TEL AVIV: An Israeli airstrike in Syria yesterday killed 11 Syrian soldiers, including four officers, and wounded 7 others, fueling fears that the Gaza war could flare up in West Asia. The members of the Syrian Army's infantry unit were killed. Yesterday morning, military bases in southwest Syria and Aleppo airport were attacked. Syria's weapons depot and air defence radar were destroyed. This is in response to the firing of two missiles from Syria towards Israel. Palestinian groups in southern Syria continue to clash with Israeli forces along the border.
Iran-backed Hezbollah has reportedly carried out a drone attack on a US military base in the Al Omar oil field in eastern Syria. This was not confirmed by the US. Hezbollah in Lebanon is also intensifying its attacks against Israel. Hezbollah chief Syed Hassan Nasrallah met with Hamas and Islamic Jihad leaders. 3 people were killed in an Israeli attack in Hebron, West Bank.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has accused the US of directing attacks in Gaza. This comes after US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken's announcement that he would respond strongly if Iran or its allies attacked Americans. King Abdullah of Jordan made it clear in his conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron that if the conflict is not ended soon, it will spread to West Asia.
Meanwhile, Gaza's hospitals, except for emergency departments, and the UN refugee agency, may stop operating today due to running out of fuel. The UN has said that at least 100 trucks a day must arrive in Gaza, where relief is insufficient. Over 100,000 people are starving in the Jabalia refugee camp.
Israel killed two Hamas divers who tried to infiltrate through the sea.
Most of the dead are children
The death toll in Gaza has passed 6,500. More than 2,700 of them are children. 756 people including 344 children were killed in 24 hours.
The tunnel will be flooded!
Pulitzer-winning US media activist Seymour Hersh said that Israel is planning to flood Hamas tunnels in Gaza before a ground attack, and they will even abandon the hostages in the tunnels.
Visa denied
Israel has denied visas for UN officials following the statement of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres that international humanitarian law is being violated in Gaza.
'When Israel was attacked, the world supported them. The world is silent on what is happening in Gaza. This is a double standard.'
