KOLLAM: Do you recall the matron who requested a woollen blanket, and Gopalakrishnan, who didn't heed her? After 35 years, Gopalakrishnan returned to the same hostel with a woollen blanket to settle his debt to the matron where his mother once stayed.

The video featuring actor Mukesh who acted as Gopalakrishnan in the film ‘Ramji Rao Speaking’ has gone viral on social media. In the video, Mukesh reprising his role as Gopalakrishnan visited the hostel and presented a woollen rug to the matron. Mukesh re-enacted the famous scene for an advertisement. In the original film, Gopalakrishnan falsely claimed to have a job in Calcutta and put his mother in the hostel. When the matron called his mother she requested a woollen blanket. Gopalakrishnan who had no money heard the request but refused loudly. The matron, believing he hadn't heard repeated her request for a woollen blanket even louder. Gopalakrishnan hung up the phone pretending he didn't hear.

A young director Regin S Babu created a sequel to this scene as an advertisement which delighted Mukesh. He gladly accepted the role believing no one else could portray Gopalakrishnan. In the new film Amritham Teacher, a dance instructor from Alappuzha portrayed the matron. Despite acting in 45 films after "Ramji Rao Speaking," Amritham Teacher now teaches dance even in her advanced age.
