KOCHI: After the death of Rahul D Nair (24) from Pala Chempilavu who was believed to have died after eating shawarma, it is reported that six more people have sought treatment at various hospitals due to similar food poisoning. The Thrikkakara Municipality Medical Officer has submitted a report to the District Medical Officer regarding this.

Aishna Ajith (34), Atharv Ajith (8), Ashmi Ajith (3), Shyamjith (30), Anjali (26) and Sarath (26), all from Kakkanad sought treatment in hospitals on different days. On the same day Rahul was taken to Sunrise Hospital, two more people sought treatment for similar symptoms according to the hospital authorities.

Simultaneously, Amrita Hospital officials confirmed the presence of salmonella bacteria in Rahul's blood which is related to food poisoning. However, the police state that a confirmation of food poisoning can only be made after receiving the chemical test report of the internal organs. On a complaint filed by Rahul's brother, Karthik, the police have registered a case against the owner of Le Hyatt Hotel in Mavelipuram.

Rahul's cremation took place in his home compound last day where he died while being treated in the hospital for suspected food poisoning from shawarma. Meanwhile, 11 people have been diagnosed with food poisoning after consuming chicken burgers and sandwiches from a bakery in Amburi, Thiruvananthapuram. This group includes the bakery owner and his wife. Food Safety Department officials have closed the bakery due to the incident.

They had consumed the burgers and sandwiches on Monday and starting the next day, they experienced vomiting and diarrhoea. They sought treatment in private hospitals. The health worker from Amburi Family Health Center collected information and confirmed that it was food poisoning. Fortunately, nobody's condition is reported to be serious.
