THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor has clarified his recent statement regarding Hamas. He stated, ‘No one should interpret my speech at the Muslim League event in Kozhikode as support for Israel. I stand with the Palestinian people. It's not fair to focus on just one sentence from my speech.’

In response to his statement, members of CPM and Sunni supporters have criticized Tharoor's remarks. Various nutrition organization officials have also voiced their concerns. Swaraj accused Dr Shashi Tharoor of holding an event that seemed to favour Israel at the expense of the Muslim League. Tharoor has not explicitly labelled Israel as a terrorist state. Swaraj claimed that Israel attacks Palestine from Tel Aviv while Shashi Tharoor spoke at the League event.

KT Jalil criticized the meeting suggesting that it was conducted under the Muslim League's leadership and appeared pro-Israel. He noted that Shashi Tharoor's speech at the rally gave the impression of being pro-Israel, which he believed was deceptive to the Palestinian people. Jalil also alleged that Shashi Tharoor expressed support for Israel to those who sympathized with the suffering of the Palestinian people.
