THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister V Sivankutty has written to the Centre seeking to intervene in the move to remove 'India' from textbooks and take steps to reverse the decision. Sivankutty has sent a letter to the Prime Minister and the Union Education Minister via email regarding the subject.

The nation's identity is a unique combination of history, culture and diversity, and the name 'India' is an important part of that identity. The term 'Bharat' coexists with 'India' within the national identity. The Constitution of India itself recognizes this. He stated in the letter that Article 1 refers to the country as 'India' and 'Bharat'.

For generations, students have learned the rich past of history and heritage with the name 'India'. Changing it now would cause confusion and disrupt educational continuity. It has been alleged that NCERT's current stance is only to support certain ideologies. This raises concerns about distortion of history and bias in education. It is essential to scrutinize such recommendations to ensure they do not follow any particular political or ideological agenda'. - Sivankutty said.

Steps should be taken to intervene and cancel the NCERT panel's recommendation to replace 'India' with 'Bharat' in textbooks. The minister also pointed out in the letter that maintaining the status quo on this matter is in the best interest of the education system and the unity of the diverse nation.
