NEW DELHI: The Indian company Tata Group will manufacture the phones of Apple, the global giants in the field of IT. Union Minister of State for IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar informed about this. Tata Group got an opportunity to manufacture the iPhone with the completion of the process of taking over the manufacturing unit of Wistron in India, which was Apple's contract company. Tata Group will manufacture iPhones for the domestic and global markets. The decision to hand over the India manufacturing unit to Tata was taken in the Wistron Group Board of Directors meeting on Friday.

In a post shared on X, Rajeev Chandrasekhar announced that Tata will start manufacturing iPhones in India in two and a half years. Wistron has contracted to manufacture 180 crore iPhones till 2024. Wistron's operations in the country will come under Tata Group, once the acquisition is completed.

This is the first time that an Indian company is going to manufacture iPhones. Apple's main contract manufacturers are Taiwanese companies Wistron and Foxconn. Foxconn also has manufacturing units in India. Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that the Ministry of Electronics and IT will provide all support to the growth of Indian electronics companies that support global electronic brands that see India as a trusted manufacturing partner. Various smartphone electronics brands like Apple have already started manufacturing in India.
