KOCHI: After the shocking death of Pala native Rahul, who died of suspected food poisoning from shawarma, five more people in Kochi sought treatment on Friday with similar complaints. The number of people who complained of food poisoning after eating at the Le Hayat Hotel in Mavelipuram has reached 13.
Sreenish and Nikhil from Kannur, Student Meenakshi from Thodupuzha, Muhammad Faris from Perinthalmanna, an employee at a mobile shop in Kakkanad, and Lima Babu from Vazhakkala were treated in various hospitals yesterday.
Shyamjith (30) and Anjali (26) from Pattupurackal, Kakkanad, Sarath (26) from Pattupura Nagar, Aishna Ajit (34), Atharv Ajit (8) and Ashmi Ajit (3) from Kollamkudimugal, Kakkanad sought treatment on Thursday. The names of the two people who are undergoing treatment at the Kakkanad’s private hospital have not been released.
On Friday, the Food Safety Department collected information from those who complained about physical pain after eating at Le Hayat and sought treatment. The officials were divided into two groups and went directly to the hospitals to seek information. Food Safety Department Asst. Commissioner P.K. John Vijayakumar told Kerala Kaumudi.
