KOCHI: Renowned art director and graphic designer Sabu Pravadas (70) passed away on Friday. He passed away on Friday morning while undergoing treatment at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College after being hit by a car.

Sabu, who had come to Thiruvananthapuram in connection with the design of the Keraleeyam program, had sustained a serious head injury in an accident while crossing the road on the 18th. He is the son of the late Sukumaran, who owned the famous Pravada Studio in Kacherippady, Ernakulam. Wife: Shirley Sabu. Son: Ashwin Sabu

Sabu started his career in the art field with the movie Tiger Salim directed by Joshiy. He did the art direction for several hit films like Rajavinte Makan, Vazhiyorakkazhchakal, Manu Uncle, Parvathy Parinayam, Lelam, Pathram, Amritham, Run Baby Run, Kaattukuthira, Otayadipathakal, First Bell and My Fan Ramu. He has created many notable designs, including posters and logos for the International Film Festival of Kerala, Film Academy Film Festival etc. He wrote two novels and a book named 'Cinemayude Charithrapusthakam.'

He is one of the founders of FEFKA, an association of film technicians. He also worked as the president of the Art Directors Union.

The body was brought to his house in Kakkanad satellite township yesterday evening. The cremation will take place today at 11 a.m. at the public crematorium in Athani, Kakkanad.
