Mollywood filmmakers in recent times have tried luck by assigning prominent roles to mimicry artists in movies. The trend was a novel one and it saw huge reception among the masses as they could see the erstwhile comedy actors quickly morphing into negative shades they were unknown for. However, this mimicry artist, albeit finding success with great roles in Mollywood still finds comfort doing mimicry bits and often graces the television screen. Instagram has also provided a certain space to help them garner a fan base. Recently actor Jayaram’s imitation of Suresh Gopi’s song went super viral across the internet. Suresh Gopi is a favourite among mimicry artists to imitate and his demeonours never get old.

Actor Ashokan is another personality who is mostly fodder for mimicry artists. The actor's greatly admired role in the movie ‘Amaram’ has been restyled over the years by mimicry artists. The oil-laced hair with an anchor-like curl right at the centre forehead and the rolling eyes with evergreen BGM music would do the work. However, in a recent interview with Kaumudi, Ashokan opened up about his distress seeing many mimicry artists crossing the line while imitating him.

Actor Ashokan’s words:

There are many people who imitate me with perfection but there are also some who irritate me. If you watch the movie, you can see that I never did this exaggerated reaction as portrayed by mimicry people. These artists are making it more dramatic. These people are mocking us and making good money. There are also some other people who deliberately mock us.

Azees Nedumangad is one such artist I feel too difficult to bear. He is a great actor but I feel he is overdoing when he imitates me. He is a good friend and has told me how he earned good money imitating me. That is it, we can't complain about these things.
