NEW DELHI: CPM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said that the 'two-states' proposed by the United Nations are the only way to end the problems in Gaza. "Whatever that is happening in Gaza is an atrocity against humanity," he said. Yechury was reacting to India's decision to abstain from the Jordanian resolution calling for an urgent and permanent ceasefire between the Israeli army and Hamas in Gaza and its support for the Canadian resolution condemning the terrorist attacks by Hamas.
On the other hand, when asked about the party's position on Hamas, Yechury responded that Hamas is an organization that came to power after winning the elections and India has not yet considered them as a terrorist organization. Yechury also said that the Kerala leaders will respond to Shashi Tharoor's response about Hamas. Tomorrow, CPM will stage a dharna in Delhi in solidarity with the people of Palestine. PB members and central committee members will participate in the dharna which will start at 12 noon. Party members will reach the dharna venue together from Surjeet Bhavan, AKG Bhavan.
