NEW DELHI: Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra has admitted that she passed on the login details of the Parliament account to her friend and businessman Darshan Hiranandani. However, she denied the allegation of accepting expensive gifts. The revelation was made in an interview given to a national media.
'My office staff use the Parliament account during my visit to Krishnanagar constituency. The help of Darshan's office worker was sought to type and post the questions. However, the account can be opened only by entering the OTP received on my mobile phone. Not many MPs use the OTP method. National Informatics Center (NIC), which manages the parliamentary website, has not prohibited logging in by others,' Mahua said.
'Only a scarf and make-up items including lipstick were received from Darshan. Darshan had brought a make-up set when he came from Dubai. His vehicle was used for trips in Mumbai. Darshan had provided the architectural plans after I sought help to renovate the bungalow I received as an MP, but the work was done by the central government's public works department. The affidavit was procured by threatening Darshan. A big businessman like him does not need to collect information about Adani through someone else. The dispute with ex-partner Jai Anand Dehadrai is over a pet dog. Ethics Committee should not interfere in it.' Mahua Moitra also alleged that Dehadrai is misusing her photos by giving them to BJP leaders.
'During my time in the banking field abroad, I lived a life of luxury. I own 35 pairs of expensive shoes. However, as an MP I wear Bata's Hawaiian sandals.' Mahua Moitra also denied the allegation that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alienated her over the allegations. It was alleged that the Parliament login ID was handed over to businessman Darshan Hiranandani to ask questions against the Adani Group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Up to the complainant to prove
'If Darshan has given anything else, let them produce the proof. If I was given diamond jewellery, they can show proof including photographs. The onus is on the complainant to prove the allegations.' Referring to BJP MP Nishikant Dubey's allegation of receiving Rs 2 crore, Mahua pointed out that Darshan did not mention this in his affidavit given to the Parliamentary Ethics Committee. Documents should be provided if payment has been made.
Must appear on November 2
The Parliamentary Ethics Committee has issued a notice to Mahua Moitra to appear on November 2 to testify on allegations that she was paid to ask questions. It was also clarified that the date cannot be extended as the allegations levelled against Mahua are a matter affecting the dignity of the Parliament. She was initially asked to appear on October 31. Mahua replied that she has to participate in pre-arranged programs in the constituency and will appear after November 4.
