KOZHIKODE: The police have taken a statement from the journalist who filed a complaint against actor and former MP Suresh Gopi for alleged indecent behaviour. The statement was recorded at Nadakkavu police station. In her statement, the media worker reiterated the details of her complaint against Suresh Gopi. A case has been filed against Suresh Gopi under Section 354A of the IPC, which pertains to actions with sexual intent. This can result in up to one year of imprisonment, a fine or both.
The incident in question occurred while Suresh Gopi was speaking to the media at Kozhikode. Suresh Gopi placed his hand on the shoulder of the journalist who was asking questions about his potential run in the Lok Sabha elections without her consent. She promptly removed his hand but he repeated the gesture. The journalist then pushed his hand away and this interaction was captured on camera sparking a significant debate. After the incident gained attention, Suresh Gopi issued an apology to the journalist.
On his Facebook page, Suresh Gopi stated "Throughout my life, I have always conducted myself respectfully in public and private. However, I understand and respect how the young journalist felt about the incident. I apologize if my actions caused her any distress or discomfort."
