THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state is yet to come out from the clutches of fever and the inclement weather is also proving a distress for many as diseases are on the rise. According to actual numbers, 186 people died due to different types of fever in the state in the last 10 months. Dengue, rat fever(streptobacillosis) and H1N1 are the most feared ailments that have taken many lives in Kerala.

71 people died of rat fever (streptobacillosis) alone. 43 people died of dengue fever, 52 people died of H1N1.10 people suffering from measles and 10 people who were treated for common fever died this year. The health department had warned that dengue fever would increase this time.

The cause of death of 105 people who died with dengue symptoms and 145 people who died with rat fever symptoms still lies in ambiguity. A final report on their death is still awaited. All were admitted with common fever symptoms and the real cause that led to death was not confirmed. Those who came in close contact with these people also battled some sort of fever.

Therefore, health experts are sure of the fact that the mainspring for the spike in death could be nothing other than fever variants. This month alone, 20,8054 people have sought treatment in hospitals due to fever. Of these, 1305 people were diagnosed with dengue, 292 people with rat fever, 26 people with H1N1 and 31 people with flea fever.

8199 people sought treatment on Saturday (October 28).
