LUCKNOW: India secured sixth consecutive World Cup win, keeping semi-final hopes alive. England chasing a target of 230 runs were bowled out for 229 in 34.5 overs. Muhammad Shami claimed four wickets, Bumrah took two while Kuldeep Yadav and Jadeja each took one. After losing the toss, India managed to score 229 runs losing nine wickets. The strong contributions of Rohit Sharma (87), Suryakumar Yadav (49) and KL Rahul (39) were instrumental in achieving this score. England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and chose to field. This marked India's first match in this World Cup where they had to bat first and their top three batsmen struggled, only reaching 40 runs. The first setback for India came when Shubman Gill (9) was stumped on the last ball of the fourth over. Chris Woakes bowled a good length ball, deceiving Gill and disturbing the stumps. Virat Kohli (0) who substituted for him faced eight balls without scoring and on the ninth ball, Stokes caught him off David Willey's delivery. Next up was Shreyas Iyer (4) who failed to support Rohit, scoring only 4 runs in 16 balls. India was at 40/3 in the 12th over when Iyer was dismissed by Woakes. Rohit and KL Rahul then steadied the ship, gradually moving India forward. They reached 100 runs together after 25 overs. The run rate picked up for India from that point. However, Rahul's departure in the 31st over was a blow for India. Suryakumar, who scored 49 runs in 58 balls was caught by Chris Woakes during his bowling spell. When Rahul departed, India's score was 131 runs, and he and Rohit had added 91 runs. Rohit's century pursuit was halted in the 37th over. He scored 87 runs off 101 balls with 10 fours and a six before being caught by Liam Livingston, taking India to 164/5. Suryakumar attempted to maintain the attack, but India's score dwindled after Rohit's dismissal. Jadeja was out at 182, Shami at 183 and Surya was dismissed for 208, with 49 runs off 47 balls including four fours and a six. Bumrah (16) and Kuldeep (9) took India to their final score of 229.
