PARIYARAM: The old Pariyaram Police Station building is in great demand. All filmmakers have to wait for long to get the station for shoot after booking. Around 20 movies and many serial telefilms have already been shot here.
This building which was the superintendent's quarters of Pariyaram TB Sanatorium, is 80 years old. The building, built by the British, had earlier functioned as the medical college canteen. Pariyaram Police Station started functioning here amidst the demand to convert this building into a protected monument. The rush of the filmmakers started a year and a half ago when the police station shifted to a new building. The appearance of the building with all the facilities of the police station attracts the moviegoers. When the police station was given for the shooting of Jayasurya’s Vellam in 2019, it had stoked a controversy. It was only after that the home department ordered that the police station should not be used for film shooting. The demand for this police station increased after this.
The shooting of Rathish Balakrishnan's film after ‘Nna Thaan Case Kodu’, which has Rajesh Madhavan, in the lead role, is progressing here for the past two days. This building has been converted into Payyannur Police Station for this movie.
Daily Rs 15000
The health department charges Rs 15,000 for a day's shooting. Rs 150,000 should be paid for 10 days shooting. If any damages happen to the building, then should pay for it. The building was earlier rented by the hospital development committee. With the increased income from shooting, the health department is now collecting the rent directly.
