MUMBAI: The residence of NCP MLA Prakash Solanke in Beed district, Maharashtra, was set on fire by supporters of the Maratha reservation. The incident occurred during renewed discussions about the Maratha reservation issue in the state.
Preliminary reports suggest that Prakash Solanke's statement opposing community leader Manod Jaranke's hunger strike for the Maratha reservation infuriated the supporters. They also damaged a vehicle parked outside the MLA's house by throwing stones. The front part of the house has been completely engulfed in flames. Videos show a significant amount of black smoke rising from the scene.
The MLA stated, "I was inside my house when the attack occurred. Fortunately, neither my family nor my staff were injured. We are all safe, but there has been extensive damage." Heavy security measures have been put in place for the Sri Lanka-Afghanistan ODI World Cup match scheduled to take place in Pune today, following the Maratha reservation protests. People who arrived dressed in black clothing to watch the match were sent back after police checks.
