TEL AVIV: Israel has confirmed the tragic death of Shani Louk, a 23-year-old German woman who was stripped naked by Hamas and taken in a truck on October 7. Her body was discovered by Israeli forces in Gaza, as confirmed by her family. Shani's sister, Adi Louk, shared the sad news on social media.
Shani Louk was taken hostage during an attack by Hamas, which infiltrated Israel. Disturbing footage showing the woman being taken away naked in a truck had previously been released.
Shani's mother had appealed to both the German and Israeli governments to help locate her daughter after she went missing. Initially, there were unconfirmed reports of her death, but this information has now been confirmed by both the government and her family.
Meanwhile, the situation in northern Gaza has intensified after Benjamin Netanyahu's announcement that the second phase of the fight against Hamas has begun. Israel has taken action by destroying more than 450 Hamas sites from Saturday night until yesterday morning, resulting in the deaths of numerous Hamas members. Israel has also increased its troop presence in Gaza.
The situation has become even more complicated due to mobs storming aid distribution centres in central and southern areas, while Israeli ground forces, tanks, and warplanes continue heavy attacks in the northern regions. Thousands of people have broken into several distribution and storage centres, taking away essential items like grain flour. The UN refugee agency has expressed concern about the deteriorating social fabric in Gaza.
