KOCHI: The Kerala Police has registered a case against Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar. The police registered the FIR against the minister for allegedly attempting to promote religious hatred through social media. The case was registered on the complaint of Kochi Cyber Cell SI.

The case has been registered on the basis of the posts shared on Facebook by the minister. In his complaint, the Cyber Cell SI alleged that Rajeev Chandrasekhar tried to incite riots in Kerala in the wake of the Kalamassery blast. He attempted to promote religious hatred towards one particular religious group. The complaint also stated that the minister shared videos in connection with the Palestine attack.

Meanwhile, BJP state president K Surendran said that the party is strongly protesting against the action of registering a case against Rajeev Chandrasekhar.

"The police registered the case to help extremist elements in the state. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's double standards and double justice got exposed with this," Surendran said.

Earlier, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had severely criticized Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar. The CM alleged that Rajeev Chandrasekhar was a communalist spewing extreme poison. Rajeev Chandrasekhar reacted against this by saying that the CM was criticising him in order to divert the allegations raised against him.

"I had questioned the incident where a Hamas leader virtually addressed a pro-Palestine rally in Malappuram. CPM, Congress leaders are promoting terrorism for the sake of vote banks. Pinarayi branded me as a communalist for pointing out that incidents like the Kalamassery blast will repeat if the religious and communal terrorist organizations are justified," Rajeev Chandrasekhar said.
