KOCHI: The central agencies investigating the Kalamassery blast case received a strand of vital evidence after the main accused Dominic Martin’s connection with dubious foreign organisations surfaced. The clues came when Dominic's social media accounts were checked. The Ernakulam Judicial First Class Magistrate Court remanded the accused on Tuesday. Dominic is determined to defend the case himself in court.
In the evidence conducted by the police with the accused in his flat at Nedumbassery Athani, pieces of electric wire used to make a bomb, a battery and bottles used to buy petrol were found. The bomb was made on the terrace of the flat next to the national highway.
Central agencies were shocked by the findings and expressed serious doubt as they remarked this was not any bomb one could easily make after watching few YouTube tutorials. It is estimated that no single person can successfully build and remotely control a powerful bomb in the first attempt.
NSG's technical experts from Delhi have examined the remnants of the bomb in detail.
Dominic returned home from abroad a month ago. It is difficult to believe his claim of learning the knack to create such powerful bombs within just months' time.
Senior officials of the Research and Analysis Wing (RO), National Security Guard (NSG) and National Investigation Agency (NIA) have been conducting investigations since the day of the blast. The questioning will be done again on the basis of the tests at the blast site. The mobile phone, e-mails and other electronic devices used by Dominic will also be subjected to forensic examination. The information of the contacts including on the phone will be checked. Data on mobile phone calls from the convention centre area on Sunday, where the blast took place, has also been collected.
Information has also been collected about those who contacted Dominic on the phone in recent days.
