gun-shot

IMPHAL: Amid ongoing conflict between aggressors and security forces in Manipur, a police officer lost his life. Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ching Tam Anand was tragically killed in the line of duty.

The incident unfolded at 9:30 a.m. in the India-Myanmar border town of More. Preliminary investigations suggest that individuals from the Kuki community may be responsible for the officer's murder. SDPO Ching Tam Anand was shot in the stomach while inspecting the helipad constructed in the border town. Despite being swiftly transported to the primary health centre, his life could not be saved. The police have launched an investigation into the identity of the assailants.

The incident follows demands by several tribal organizations for the withdrawal of police personnel from border towns. These tribal organizations contend that police actions in the area are in opposition to their interests.

On May 3, approximately 10 Myanmar nationals were apprehended for looting the residences of Moray residents who had vacated the city during the communal conflict.

50 lakhs for the family

In the wake of this tragic event, an emergency cabinet meeting, led by Chief Minister Biren Singh, was convened. The officer's grieving family will receive compensation of Rs 50 lakh, along with the assurance of a government job. To apprehend the perpetrators, security forces have initiated a joint operation and are preparing to deploy additional troops from Imphal to enhance security in the region.
