KOLKATA: Police have taken four people into custody for waving the Palestinian flag during the World Cup cricket match between Pakistan and Bangladesh in Kolkata. The match took place at Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata yesterday. The police said that two of the detained youths are from Jharkhand while the other two are from Ekbalpur and Howrah in Kolkata.
Police said that they are investigating why the youths waved the Palestinian flag and whether there was anyone else behind them.
"More details will come out only after questioning them. They did not raise slogans or protest in any other way. The preliminary investigation found that they aimed to protest the ongoing conflict in Gaza," the police added.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army confirmed that it carried out an airstrike on the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza. Israel also stated that a Hamas commander was killed in the attack.
