THRISSUR: College principal in charge Dr T D Shobha told media that devaswom president directed to continue the stopped recounting to the student union polls held at the Kerala Varma College. She said there is no other way and that she has to obey the college manager. The principal said the recounting resumed last night as per the instructions of Cochin devaswom board president and when a dispute broke out, she had asked to stop the recounting. Then the Cochin devaswom board president called. No one had given a written demand for the re-election. The principal said that will examine if given.

However, Cochin Devaswom Board President Dr M K Sudarshan said that he directed to legally complete the counting stopped half way. There was no other interference, he added.

The KSU is planning to move the high court alleging that the student union election of the college was sabotaged through recounting. The KSU alleged that the union had sabotaged the election in the name of recounting, the invalid votes were counted in favour of the SFI and the left teachers colluded to make SFI win. When the votes were first counted, KSU chairman candidate Srikuttan had won by one vote. While the KSU was celebrating in a big way after winning a general seat in Kerala Varma after 32 years, the SFI demanded recounting and announced SFI candidate Anirudhan victorious by 11 votes after dramatic events that lasted till midnight.

The KSU alleged a coup. KSU alleged that the chairman of Cochin Devaswom Board had given instructions to sabotage the elections and that the recounting was conducted late night and the SFI won on the instructions of the higher authority. The KSU will march to the Cochin Devaswom Board office as a sign of protest.
