VIZHINJAM: Ten Israeli tourists hailing from two different families find themselves stranded in Kovalam as their visas have expired. With their cash reserves dwindling, they've moved from a private hotel to a more affordable house.
The group includes Ori (40) and his wife Eilat (38) along with their children Nadav and Jondan as well as Ori's mother Oni. Additionally, there's Avishai (45) and his wife Hadas (42) with their children Idhamav, Maya and Akhiel. They initially came to Kerala for a 12-day visit arriving in Kovalam from Kochi on the 29th of last month.
Their predicament stems from the cancellation of flights to Israel due to the ongoing war which has also led to the expiration of their visas. Renewing the visas would cost them Rs 8,500 per person, a sum they currently can't afford.
Ori, who runs a sports club in Israel and lived in a rented house is worried about the availability of their accommodation back home. They've received information about the war's impact from Ori's father, Moses in Israel who encourages them to stay in India for safety. However, their main concern remains their financial situation.
They had purchased return plane tickets for 2,000 dollars but these flights were cancelled due to the war and they received only a small refund. The Israeli government has not been contacted yet.
The visa renewal process will take a month and the group currently lacks the funds to sustain their stay in India. They are hopeful that the Indian government will provide assistance.
