KOZHIKODE: A Class 6 girl has been allegedly brutally beaten by dance teacher for wrong Bharatanatyam steps. This is during the final preparations for the Sahodaya CBSE Arts Festival.

Human Rights Commission Acting Chairman Baijunath, who filed a case on the complaint of the child's mother, who is a resident of Vellimadukunn Iringadam Palli in Kozhikode, directed the Town Assistant Commissioner to submit a report within 15 days. The case is against Sahesh, a dance teacher at Eranjikal Samarpana Fine Arts, for beating an eleven-year-old girl on her hand and leg with a cane and pinching her wrist. Elathur police also registered a case and started investigation. The girl has been studying dance here for five years. In the complaint, the mother says that her daughter, who is participating in Bharatanatyam and folk dance in the district level competition, was assaulted on the evening of October 27 when she came for Bharatanatyam practice. When she made a wrong step, the dance teacher closed the room and beat her with a cane on both wrists, legs and palms. He also pinched bother her armpits.

The daughter came home crying. After seeing injuries on his body, the girl was taken to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. The mother said that the child woke up startled and started crying, and was taken to a cousellor and filed a complaint with the police and the Human Rights Commission.

Human Rights Commission Acting Chairman K Baijunath said that it was a tragic incident. "I saw the girl in person. The body of the child has many beating marks. Strict action will be taken in this regard. The matter will be brought to the attention of the Child Rights Commission.", he said.
