CHENNAI: A newly wedded couple were hacked to death on the third day of their marriage. The incident happened at Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu. Mari Selvam (23) and Karthika (21) were brutally murdered. It is reported that the reason for the murder was that the marriage was conducted despite the opposition of the girl’s family.

The murder was committed last night. A group reached the couple’s house and then hacked them to death. Police said a six-member team who came in three bikes are behind the murder. Thoothukudi SP said three special teams were appointed to trace the accused. Police said that both belonged to the same caste and Karthika's family was against their marriage as Mari's family was economically backward.
