KOCHI: The distribution of RC books and driving licenses has gone awry in the state after the Finance Department abandoned the Motor Vehicle Department citing a financial crisis. The Postal Department has stopped the distribution of RC books and licenses to people as it has not yet received the Rs 2.84 crore arrear from the Motor Vehicle Department

The Postal Department has decided to resume the distribution only after receiving the dues. With this, thousands of people who paid money in advance to get the RC book and license at their own address are facing difficulties.

The postal department has stopped the distribution of licenses and RC books through speed post from Wednesday. Officials of the postal department said that 15,000 licenses reached the post offices on Wednesday alone for distribution. The motor vehicle department has to pay the dues for the distribution of licenses and RC books from July to September.

The license printing was shifted to Kochi in April. Last month, 1.38 lakh RCs and 2.27 lakh licenses were printed.
