KALPETTA: Crime branch issued a notice to BJP state president K Surendran in the election bribery case related to CK Janu. Surendran has been asked to appear on the 14th of this month for questioning. He is directed to appear before the Investigating Officer at Kalpatta. A case was registered against Surendran following allegations that he paid money to CK Janu to contest in Sultan Bathery constituency.
JRP State Treasurer Praseetha Azhikode had alleged that Surendran had personally wrapped the money in a towel and paid it to CK Janu for her cooperation with NDA. Ten lakh rupees were given in this way. Praseetha said that Surendran went to the hotel room to meet Janu and at that time the party workers came out. Praseetha said that she saw money in the towel that Janu was using after Surendran left.
Surendran had responded to Praseetha's allegation by asking what was wrong with BJP booking a room for Janu, the leader of the constituent party of NDA. Surendran had told the media then that the controversy was part of a conspiracy and that Praseetha also met CPM leader P Jayarajan in Kannur.
