KOZHIKODE: Putting an end to the Congress dissension, the Muslim League backed out of the CPM's Palestine rally half-heartedly. The league leadership stated that they are not participating out of courtesy to the allies within UDF. Meanwhile, P K Kunhalikutty ended the note by saying that the league leadership is grateful to CPM for inviting, which left many within the UDF camp to ponder over the unusual bonhomie brewing between the league and CPM.

According to reports, the league has tabled some demands for the Congress party to agree and it includes three seats for the upcoming Lok Sabha contest. The fact that the league took two days to make a decision on participating in the CPM rally put the congress party in a fix. Amidst this, K Sudhakaran courted controversy with his “dog” remark.

Opposition leader V D Satheeshan used the cards wisely and heaped praise on the league for the decision to stick with UDF. Satheesan said that he had faith that the league would not do anything harmful to the UDF front.

Meanwhile, LDF convener E P Jayarajan retorted back at Satheeshan’s remark but made sure to cuddle League in his reply. “ League should understand the congress double standard. This is the party that never reprimanded Shashi Tharoor who openly stood with Israel albeit being a congressman” Jayarajan commented.

The political turmoil began when league leader ET Mohammad Basheer gave a yes nod to participate in the CPM conducting Palestine rally in Kozhikode on November 11th. This created an upheaval within the UDF camp and it took several pacifying attempts before League tacitly fell in line with the UDF.

The leaders feared that if the League took part in the CPM rally, things would go awry. K. Muraleedharan even questioned the purpose of an alliance if the League participated in CPM conducted a rally. It is learned that VD Satheesan and Ramesh Chennithala called the league leaders including Panakkad Sayyid Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal for pacifying talks.
