arrested

KANNUR: An old man who shot at the police searching for his son, who is accused of attempted murder, has been remanded. The arrested has been identified as Babu Oommen Thomas (71) of Lake Street Villa in Kannur's Chirakkal. At 10 pm on Friday, the police came to arrest Roshan, the son of Babu Oommen and accused in several criminal cases, including the attempt to kill a native of Tamil Nadu.

A team of two SIs reached the spot after locals informed that Roshan, who was absconding, was at home. When the police reached the top of the two-storey house and knocked on the door of Roshan's room, Babu Oommen fired three rounds through the window of the adjacent room. The police managed to escape unscathed. Meanwhile, Roshan ran away.

Then more police force led by ACP TK Ratnakumar arrested Babu Oommen by force. Babu Oommen was interrogated under the leadership of Kannur City Police Commissioner Ajith Kumar. The FIR states that the gun is not licensed. But Commissioner Ajith Kumar later informed that the FIR was prepared based on the preliminary conclusion and the gun is licensed.

Roshan, who is in the goonda list, has five cases against him, including two attempted murders. This also includes drug cases. On October 22, Roshan attacked a neighbor from Tamil Nadu.

Shots fired into the sky?
Babu Oommen's wife Linda said that the police came with goons who had a dispute with Roshan. "Doors, vehicles and windows were broken. My husband shot them to chase them away. He did not shoot at the police. The gun was licensed.", she said.

But the police said that the glass of the car was broken by Babu Oommen's bullet. A forensic examination will be conducted to confirm this. It will be investigated whether the cars were vandalized after the police left. The police explained that they entered by jumping over the wall because there were dogs in the house.
