RAIPUR: With two days remaining for the first phase of elections, a BJP leader was killed in Chhattisgarh during election campaign. According to the police, BJP leader Ratan Dubey, was killed by Maoists.
Dubey was the district vice president of Narayanpur. The incident took place while campaigning for the party in Kausalnar region when he was hacked with an axe. After this, the police reached the spot and intensified the search for the accused.
A special team has also been appointed for the investigation. BJP Chhattisgarh in charge, Om Prakash Mathur criticized the state government for the worsening law and order situation over the killing of the BJP leader.
“While Ratan Dubey he was chairing a meeting with the party workers in an interior village, was attacked by the Naxals…I appeal to the party workers & leaders that we will take revenge for this by winning the elections. We are with his family…Target killings are happening continuously. This shows that the law & order situation in the state is worsening…” he said.
Earlier on October 20, BJP worker Birju Taram was shot dead by suspected Maoists in Sarkheda village of Mohlanpur Ambagad Chowki district. Narayanpur is one of the 20 assembly seats that will go to polls in the first phase on November 7. The second phase of polling for the 90-member assembly will be held on November 17 and the counting of votes will be held on December 3.
