CHENGANNUR: The students journey standing at the open doorway of a running train is very dangerous. The students’ adventurous journey is in the Ernakulam-Kollam MEMU train. Many including girls travel standing from Kottayam to Kollam in the train which leaves Ernakulam at 1.35 pm and reaches Kollam at 5.20 pm.

In every station, the students get down jumping and after the passengers waiting in the station board in, they will get in when the train is about to move. Even though there are seats to sit, they do not move from the doors. Their main entertainment is to hold on to the rod and put their heads out when the train runs. Getting off the platform when the train stops at each station and getting in when the train departs makes it difficult for other passengers.

A month ago, one of the two girls who travelled in this way fell on the platform at Kayamkulam railway station. With this, the girl who got on first also jumped to the platform. Both were seriously injured. A major accident was avoided as they did not fall between the train and the platform. Even though the passengers informed the railway police about the dangerous journey of the students, there was no checking.

If this act is questioned, the students will protest collectively. So, the other passengers do not respond. The problem will be solved if the RPF and police conduct an inspection, said Sreekanth Mohan, a passenger.
