THRISSUR: The church leadership rejected the criticism against Prime Minister, BJP and Suresh Gopi in the archdiocesan mouthpiece 'Catholica Sabha'.
Thrissur archdiocese spokesperson Fr CS Simpson said that that is not the church's political stance. This can only be seen as the opinion of the Catholic Congress, an organization of the laity of the Church. The Catholic Congress had organized a protest fire on the Manipur issue. The church explains that the article came as a high opinion in protest.
In the mouthpiece of November, it was asked whether Suresh Gopi had the spine to ask the Prime Minister what he was doing when Manipur was burning. Suresh Gopi had responded that there is no change in his stand on the Manipur issue and the church has the right to express its opinion. He also said that we should identify who is behind this. Suresh Gopi's remarks at the end of the padayatra against the Karuvannur bank fraud is what led to the criticism.
