THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Orange alert has been issued for two districts today as the Thulavarsham continues to remain active in the state. Ernakulam and Palakkad districts have been warned of heavy rainfall. The Meteorological Center has also announced a thunderstorm alert in these areas. A yellow alert has been issued for all districts except Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod where heavy rain is expected.

Rains intensified in central Kerala on Sunday night leading to landslides in Idukki at Shanthanpara and Chathurangapara. Fire forces and revenue officials evacuated residents from affected houses. Roy (55), a native of Cheriyar died in a landslide in Thankanpara, Cheriyar.

The state will continue to experience isolated heavy rains due to a cyclonic circulation over North Tamil Nadu and easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Center has warned of high waves of 1.0 to 1.5 meters along the South Tamil Nadu coast until 11.30 pm tonight. Fishermen and coastal residents should exercise caution.
