RIYADH: In a significant effort to curb residence and employment border security violations, Saudi Arabia has arrested 16,695 foreign nationals in the past week. A joint investigation led by the Saudi Ministry of Interior and various investigative agencies took place from October 26 to November 1, resulting in the apprehension of individuals violating the country's laws.

Out of the total arrests, 10,518 were related to residence violations, 3,953 to border security violations, and 2,224 to labour violations. Additionally, 783 individuals were caught attempting to cross the Saudi Arabian border. Notably, Yemenis constituted 57% of those arrested, while Ethiopians made up 42%, with 1% from other countries.

Moreover, 18 people were arrested for aiding violators of residence and employment regulations. Presently, a total of 49,890 individuals are facing legal action in Saudi Arabia for such violations, including 42,358 men and 7,532 women. The relevant diplomatic institutions have been engaged to secure the travel documents of those involved in legal proceedings.

The Ministry of Interior has issued a stern warning to those assisting individuals who break the law and enter the country. Such accomplices are at risk of facing legal consequences, including imprisonment of up to 15 years and a maximum fine of 1 million riyals. Officials have also emphasized that vehicles and accommodation facilities involved in facilitating such illegal activities will be confiscated.
