THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KSU calls for an education bandh in the state tomorrow. The education bandh came after state office-bearers were beaten up by the police during a protest march by the KSU demanding the resignation of Higher Education Minister R Bindu in the wake of the high-profile controversy related to the Kerala Varma College elections. The state president Aloysius Xavier called for the educational bandh.
Many people, including a lady worker, were injured in the clash between the workers and the police. She sustained serious head injuries. It is also alleged that the police beat up the KSU activists when they were taking this woman activist to the hospital.
The clash that started in front of the minister's residence at Vazhuthacaud spread to other parts of the capital. Six members of KSU are in custody. Members allege that KSU leader Abhijit was rounded up and beaten up by the police and taken into custody without any reason.
KSU is demanding the re-conduct of elections in Kerala Verma College. They stated that Minister R. Bindu should resign and the strike would be extended to Cliff House. Activists vandalized Keraleeyam flux boards. The activists also blocked the vehicle of Minister K Krishnankutty and MLA PP Chitharanjan.
