fire

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In order to avoid further fires in the godowns of Kerala Medical Services Corporation, the investigation team will find out the best procurement practices in Tamil Nadu and submit a report. The investigation team will visit Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation's Chennai procurement centre and private company centres. It will then give a final report within 10 days by including the changes that Kerala need to make.

Last May, three godowns of the KMSCL were burnt down within five days. A firefighter lost his life during the effort to douse off the fire. There was a loss of more than 9 crore rupees. The fires broke out at the warehouses in Kollam, Thumba in Thiruvananthapuram and Alappuzha. Following this, the inquiry committee was appointed.

The drugs controller recommended to the government that in order to precisely ascertain the lapses, the inquiry committee must visit well-functioning procurement centres in other states. Following this, the government gave permission to visit procurement centres in Tamil Nadu. KMSCL Managing Director Dr Shibulal, Drugs Controller Sujith, Fire Force, PWD and Electrical Inspectorate representatives will go to Tamil Nadu.

Cause of fire?

Although the cause of the fire was initially found to be a chemical change in the bleaching powder, this can only be confirmed after the final report comes. It was alleged that the storage of medicines was not scientific and there were no adequate safety measures.
