MALAPPURAM: Opposition Leader VD Satheesan on Tuesday held a meeting with the leaders of the Muslim League. The opposition leader reached Panakkad this morning. He held a meeting with Panakkad Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal, PK Kunhalikutty and PMA Salam. It is reported that KPCC president K Sudhakaran will reach Panakkad this evening.
After visiting Panakkad Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal, the opposition leader told the media that it is only natural for Congress leaders to come to Panakkad.
"As the Congress convention is being held in Malappuram, I came here with the aim of communicating with the League leaders, including Panakkad Sadiq Ali Thangal. The friendly visit comes at a time when the decades-long brotherly relationship between the Congress and the League is getting stronger. Unlike in the past, as we approach the Lok Sabha elections, there is not a single panchayat in Malappuram district where there is a difference of opinion between the League and the Congress. There is strong friendship among the leaders and the workers," Satheesan said.
"Malappuram is also the district where the UDF is strongest. The League has given a precise answer to the CPM. Congress is happy and proud in that regard. The League said that they were not willing to participate in an event where the Congress was not invited. The League and the Congress have no objection to the cause of the programme. Congress still has the same stance taken by Mahatma Gandhi and Indira Gandhi on the issue of Palestine. No one in the world has been able to organize an event as big as the one organized by the League in Kozhikode. Each party conducts events in its own way. The Congress had organized a bigger seminar than the one held by the CPM on the Uniform Civil Code," he added.
He alleged that the CPM tried to portray that there was something wrong within the UDF by turning the issue of Palestine into a narrow politics.
