CHITTUR: A woman was beaten to death by her husband with a rod in the middle of the road in Nallepilly. Urmila (32), daughter of Nallepilly natives Udayan and Usha is the one who was murdered in broad daylight. Her husband Sajesh is in police custody.
The incident happened at seven o'clock yesterday morning. Urmila was walking to the Kambilichungam bus stop to go to work at Walayar Beer Company when Sajesh unexpectedly attacked her. The accused who came from behind hit Urmila on the head with a rod. The injured woman jumped to the nearby field and tried to run, but Rajesh, who followed her, continued to beat her.
The accused escaped on a bike. The incident was first seen by a local resident who came that way. Locals rushed Urmila to Chittoor Taluk Hospital but she could not be saved. The cause of death was severe head injury. This is not the first time Sajesh is attacking Urmila. He had entered the house and seriously injured Urmila last May.
Urmila's second marriage
Urmila has been living in her own house for a year and a half after being distanced from her husband due to a family dispute. Urmila's father and brother said that the reason for the separation was the abuse at her husband's house. She got married to Sajeesh four years ago. This was Urmila's second marriage. Police said that the accused in custody has confessed to the crime. He will be produced in court today.
The body was handed over to the relatives after post-mortem. The funeral will be at nine o'clock today morning. Children: Atulya and Jitulya.
