KOCHI: Alan Shuhaib, the accused in the Pantheerankavu UAPA case, has been admitted in the hospital in a serious condition. He was found unconscious in his flat at Edachira in Ernakulam this morning with an overdose of sleeping pills. His relatives immediately rushed him to the hospital.

Alan has been admitted to the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Ernakulam. The initial conclusion of the police is that it was a suicide attempt. The police said that he consumed more than 30 sleeping pills. Alan had sent letters to his friends hinting suicide. The police have started an investigation in this regard.

The Pantheerankavu case is presently in the trial stages. Due to this, Alan faced obstacles in writing exams. The police believe that this may be behind the suicide attempt. In a letter sent to his friends, Alan attributed his problems to the system.

The Pantheerankavu police had arrested Alan, an LLB student, and Thaha, a journalism student on November 1, 2019 on charges of Maoist links. They were charged under UAPA after pamphlets of Maoist organizations were seized from them. The NIA later took over the investigation.
