BENGALURU: A 32-year-old constable strangled his wife to death on suspicion of being in an illicit relationship. Kishore, a constable of the Karnataka police, killed his wife Prathiba on Monday. Kishore killed his wife after traveling a distance of 230 km to reach her house. Kishore, who consumed insecticide before killing her, is now undergoing treatment in a hospital and is in a critical condition. The baby was born to the couple 11 days ago.

He drove 230 km from Chamarajanagar town to his wife’s parents’ home near Hoskote, where he killed his wife. He tried to contact her 150 times on the phone before murdering her. However, she failed to pick up the phone. The two got married on November 13 in 2022. Soon after killing her, he was taken into custody.


Kishore often checked her mobile phone suspecting her of being in an illicit relationship. Kishore wanted to know on a daily basis who she interacted with. Police said Kishore had accused Prathiba many times of having illicit relations with male friends who studied together in college.


A verbal dispute broke out between the two on Sunday evening. Meanwhile, her mother intervened after seeing her crying. Kishore then disconnected the phone. Her mother told her that the health of the new born would suffer if she continued crying. She told her not to pick up his phone calls. The police stated that Prathiba told her mother about the 150 missed calls received from Kishore's phone on Monday morning.


The police said that Kishore reached her house on Monday morning and strangled her to death. According to the FIR, Kishore first consumed insecticide and then locked Prathiba’s room. He then strangled her to death using a dupatta.
