KOZHIKODE: A Gujarat man was arrested for extorting money from a Kozhikode native through an AI(artificial intelligence) linked video call. Gujarat Mehsana native Sheikh Murtu Samia Hayat has been arrested for the crime. The suspect was caught in an investigation conducted in Mehsana by the Cyber ​​Crime Police Station and the Special Squad under the Kozhikode City Police Commissioner.

The victim of the fraud was a retired central government employee residing in Kozhikode. A fake video call resembling the victim’s friend was made using AI technology, which never made the victim doubt the authenticity of the call, as the voice note also sounded similar to his friend's. Rs 40,000 was taken by tricking the victim about some urgent hospital need. The money was transferred through the bank account.

The suspect, who uses many mobile numbers and mobile phones, was found during a scientific investigation conducted by the Kerala police after staying in Mehsana for several days. He is apparently involved in cases of a similar nature registered in Gujarat and Karnataka. Cyber ​​Crime Police Station Sub-Inspector Vinod Kumar M, Senior Civil Police Officer Beeraj Kunnummal, Special Action Group Sub-Inspector O. Mohandas and Senior Civil Police Officer Sreejith Padiyat were in the investigation team.

In Goa and Gujarat, the investigation led by Kozhikode City Cyber ​​Crime Police Station Inspector Dinesh Koroth has revealed that one of the main suspects is Kaushal Shah, who owns a Jio Payments bank account. It is reported that Kaushal has entered Nepal. A detailed investigation is underway to find him. In the meantime, Sheikh Murtu Samia Hayat, who organized the bank accounts needed to commit the fraud, was arrested.
