KOCHI: Shamsudeen does not know that strange person who sends money to feed ten people daily. However, his ambitious ten meals will always be there at 'Shamsukkante Chaya Kada' on Ashoka Road at Kaloor in Ernakulam. Money for the meals is sent every week through Shamsudeen's (61) brother's friend. This has been the practice for two years but the amount is kept secret.
Shamsudeen sells meals with sambar, fish gravy, pickles and fried fish for Rs 40. Food is given to poor children and those who have no means of food, who live and study in Ernakulam from different places, and come to the shop regularly.
Food should be served alone
Shamsudeen’s teashop is adjacent to his Ozhiparambu house. The shop opens at 5.30 am. Serves local food in the morning. The needy should serve themselves. Curry is free. Shamsudeen makes tea. Those drunk will not get food from here. Jameela is his wife and children Shesin and Mehasin.
‘This is not just a hotel; it is a home for those who come here. Food will be given to the poor. Whoever gives free food is a good human being,’ said Shamsudeen.
